Hatshepsut in portrait

One of the few women on the throne of Egypt — she ruled first as regent, then as pharaoh with full titles.

Under her throne name Maatkare, Hatshepsut ascended the Horus throne after first ruling on behalf of her under-age stepson and nephew Thutmose III. Her reign was largely peaceful and focused on the economy: she sent a famous trading expedition to the land of Punt and erected obelisks around 30 metres tall in the Temple of Amun at Karnak.

What is known about Hatshepsut

Queen Hatshepsut at first ruled on behalf of Thutmose III, who was still a minor, but then made herself sole ruler. Reliefs in her mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari record an expedition to Punt.
